What It Means To Be A Witness

September 10, 2007 at 3:37 pm (Uncategorized)

Before reading the novel Night, students need to understand what it means to speak as a witness.  In this blog you will need to write about an event you “witnessed” in person.  You might choose an incident as immediate as walking by a homeless person sleeping in a doorway or a car accident that takes place right in front of you.  You can even describe how you experienced the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 as you “witnessed” this tragedy on T.V.  Begin your blog with “It’s important to remember…” or “I saw it with my own eyes.”  Remember how descriptive you were with the vignette; think action verbs, figurative language, and imagery.  Don’t forget to proofread!

I saw it with my own eyes. I was on Chastain Parkway going to the mall with one of my friends. This car was flying down the intersection and I didn’t see the car that was stopped right in front of them. They hit them like a rocket coming out of a space shuttle. Glass flew everywhere and my friend and I sat there, stunned. It was a red light, but the car apparently didn’t see it. Thankfully, no one was hurt. They still came out of it with an ugly car. I was very thankful that, that wasn’t me.

I saw with my own eyes a car accident. Actually, I didn’t see it happen I felt it. Yes, I was in it. All of the sudden I felt a jolt, then I lunged forward and stopped. I was really afraid and nervous to what just happened. My family and I were driving down a busy road, and we had a green turn light, so we went and a guy who had a red light, ran it. So, the guy driving the burgandy red truck, hit us on the left front part of our cherry red van. My dad now has neck problems, and my mom a severe back pains off and on. Nothing happened to me and my little sister. That day was very emotional for my family and I, but now all we can do is sit back relax, laugh at what happened, and wish that it doesn’t happen again. So, now my mom, dad, and since I now have my permit to drive are always on the lookout to make sure no one runs the red light, and hits us head on again. So, that is what I saw/felt with my own eyes.

I saw it with my own eyes as the car came right for us. I was 10 years of age at the time and we were just driving around Atlanta after seeing a movie. We had stopped at a red light and were just waiting for it to turn green, when BAM!!!! A car came flying out of a gas station and rammed the side of our truck. The truck immediately went onto two wheels. Everyone in the truck was terrified. The driver of the car that hit us had ditched his car and booked it out of there. Luckily no one was hurt. Only our truck took any physical damage.

I saw it with my own eyes. I was at home a few weeks ago watching 20/20 to see a Nicole Richey special, when it came on TV. The Minneapolis Bridge fell in a matter of 3 seconds. It was insane. They are still trying to get all of the cars and people from under the river. The bridge collapsed from wear and tear. I could not believe it.

It is important to remember the events that took place on September 11, 2001 because it has majorly affected our country and who we are today. I even remember where I was when this tragedy happened. I was sitting in a school classroom and no one had a clue what was going on. Someone came in and told us about what had happened and we talked about it and everyone was in total shock. We couldn’t believe that this had happened. It was almost hard to comprehend what had happened. I remember going home that day, turning on the TV as I always did and flipping through the channels and on so many channels it was about the plane crashes and the tragic events of that day. It was very upsetting to see what had happened. It was all over the news that day and even for the days, weeks, months, and even years to come. This tragic day in history had such an impact on our world today. This day in history is never to be forgotten.

It’s important to remember the events of September 11. It’s is important to remember the people that ran to the World Trade Centers to help everyone in danger. You also have to remember the people that died while helping people or the people that died when the planes hit the two towers. It is also important to remember how the events changed the United States, you, and how it changed everyone. Also, remember how you felt and how you would have felt if someone that you loved was in the tower or one of the planes that crashed. Remember also how the events of the day brought everyone together, physically and mentally through what they were all experiencing during that time.

It is important to remember how fortunate many of us our, and not take what we have for granted. When I was seven, I went out to California to visit family, and I saw some pretty hard things. Two of my cousins and I were going for a walk one day around lunch time. My grandpa had just given us each a dollar to leave him alone and let him sleep, and we were going down the street to a little corner store to get some candy. I remember passing by a bunch of people sitting in little cardboard boxes. There were tiny girls and boys, even younger than me. I asked my cousins, Shane and Anthony, what they were doing. Shane told me that that was their home. I couldn’t belive it. The conditions were absolutly horrible, the heat was unbelivable, there were flies everywhere, and it smelled terrible. Everyone looked like they hadn’t had anything to eat in a month, and hadn’t cleaned themselves up in even longer. I felt so bad for everyone, but especailly the kids my age. So now when I start feeling sorry for myself I try to think of those people I saw, and instead of complaining, I feel grateful for everything that I have.

It is important to remember September 11, 2001. The reason I think this is because so many people lost their lives on this day. I only think its right to remember them for the heroic actions they showed on this day. They knew walking into the burning buildings that they might never come back out, they might never be able to see their families again, they may never take another breath, but still they went and did their jobs to the best of their ability and saved as many people as they could. This is the reason they we should all remember September 11, 2001.

I saw it with my own two eyes has the cop pulled up in his car. It was a very hot day and my friends though it be funny to shot cars with bee bee gun. At first we thought it was fun, but it turned in to a disaster. As the day went on we thought it was fine in till later there was people looking for three boys. They went to each house, so we went out into the woods to hide. Later my dad came and we just finally came out. Maybe 30 minutes later a cop came pulling in. The cop threatened to take us to YDC which is a juvenile camp. That was the scariest day of my life. The next day I found out that they shot a mail truck which is a federal offence, but luckily I was there after the incident. They both gat record that won’t be gone in till their 18. I was a witness of everything that we did.

It’s important to remember what happened on September 11. I can remember clear as water I was sitting down watching TV. when I saw the news. I couldn’t believe what I had just seen. The twin towers had been struck down by two high jacked airplanes. I didn’t know what to think for awhile but then it hit me; my mom was in New York. She was going there to do something with her business. She was not going to be there for a long time but she said she was going to go see the twin towers. Right then in an instant my heart sunk. I didn’t know what to do so I ran and told my dad. He said that everything was going to be alright and assured me that she was fine. We tried calling her for about thirty minutes before she picked up. When she finally answered the phone and I heard her voice I could breathe again. I could finally think straight. I asked her where she was and she answered she was fine and she will be home in a couple days. I will never forget the feeling that I had just lost my mom forever. That day I will never forget.

I saw it with my own eyes, the tragedy that every American will never forget. September 11, 2001. I came home from school and saw the smoky, gray, sky above the Twin Towers on T.V. I immediately didn’t understand how someone could do something so horrible and take so many lives from families who needed them. Just to see the towers horrified me to think this could happen in such a great place like America. I guess we’re not as safe as we think we are. I still can see the people’s faces watching the towers fall to the ground knowing that someone they knew or loved was still inside. I along with many other Americans will never forget this horrific day that we witnessed and will never forget the tragedy that went down on American soil.

I was in a car wreck near my house. Me and one of my best friends was going down my drive was lost control and slammed into a tree. The car was totaled and my friend fractured 3 ribs. The crash seemed a lot worse after i stood back and looked at it. But, me and him got out of the crash pretty easy i walked away brused he just got fractured ribs. We slammed into the tree going 35mph. If i hadnt been there he would have been blammed for everything they said he ment to do it but he lost control because of loose gravel so i saved him on that one.

It’s important to remember September 11th. I was nine years old at this time, I remember people saying what a disaster this is and I didn’t really understand what the big deal was. When we started talking and praying about in school, that’s when I started to understand why this was a huge disaster. It also helped that I talked about it with my family at home. They explained to me that a terrorist group had stolen our planes and flew them into our buildings. The more I became aware, they more I was able to help other people to understand what had happened on the 11th. Every day you would see more news footage and hear the discoveries on T.V. of what happened. That also help me realize why the nation was so affected. This day filled people with hurt, sorrow, and depression. Most people just want to move on and forget this day ever happened. I have to strongly disagree with that. I think we should not forget the men and women that risked and lost their lives for America. Also we wouldn’t want to forget history because we don’t want to relive the tragedy. September 11th was a horrible day for our nation and others so therefore it shouldn’t be forgotten.

I saw it with my own eyes the twin towers fall. It was the worst experience that I can have. Seeing all the people jump out of the towers and them dying was really hard it started out to be a very good day for everyone and end up being a tragedy. When me and my friends got out of school early we decided to go see what was going on when we crossed the Brooklyn bridge that’s when the fist tower just crashed to the floor we stayed and seen the second plain go into the tower. Everyone was crying and covered in dust from the blinding it was harder on the older people because they had children working in there but as for me I just hope I never see anything like that again because that was really sad.

I saw it all with my own eyes. This past Friday night, I was at one of my good friend’s pool party. One of my other friends was sick with pneumonia but had decided to come anyways and just not get in and swim. A bunch of us were going down the slide and having a lot of fun. I guess she thought she was missing out and decided to come with us. She didn’t bring her bathing suit to the party, so she just went in her clothes. We had made a train and she was a good bit in front of me. When I got down to the end of the slide one of my friends was holding her and she was laying there with her eyes shut. I was told that something was wrong with her and that she was unconscious. They also told me that people had fallen on her after they landed from the slide, and she was stuck at the bottom. Everyone was extremely scared because she was still unconscious and no one knew what was going to happen. The parents called 911 and the ambulance came. They stayed for a while but ended up not taking her. Everyone was still really worried because they were there for so long and they weren’t doing anything. We didn’t know if they couldn’t move her or what was going on. She ended up being okay and was at school that Monday, but it was still an extremely scary situation.

I saw it with my own eyes one of my good friends, Molly completely knocked out. We were at a surprise birthday party; we had thrown for another one of our really good friends. While we were at the party have an extremely good time a very scary accident happened. Molly had been apart of the human train we formed to go down the slide. Right before we had started the train off Molly informed us she had a serve case of ammonia, but wanted to go down the slide still. Well she had to wear jeans and a tank top while swimming, so as she continued very speedily down the slide the bottom of her jeans got caught and so the people behind her slammed header into her, pushing she all the way down the slide. As we all laughed and giggled we realized Molly was floating face down. Imminently the whole pool turned from calm and fun into complete chaos! We rushed to get her out of the blue pool onto the side of the pool. We got her flat and realized she was unconscious! We got the parental units attentions and they rushed to her aid, only to find her not breathing and had no pulse. So someone called 911 and got the ambulances, fire trucks, and police there. After a very long and scary 3 minutes of Molly being unconscious she came back to life. When the ambulance finally arrived they just made sure she was okay and left. This was a very eye opening event. It showed everyone that it’s fun to mess around but there is always a lot of risks we need to be aware of.

I saw with my own eyes my dog got hit by a car. I was playing with my dog (lucky) outside one day, and Lucky saw a squirrel and started to chase it. Lucky chased the squirrel up the creek around a huge oak tree and into the street. After that I couldn’t see him anymore so I start to walk up the hill to look for him. As I walking up the hill I heard a screeching noise, the noise of a car slamming on the breaks. When I got up to the street I saw lucky laying there. He was in a drain and didn’t move when I called his name.
